The area of the district is . Its administrative center is the town of Gusev.〔Resolution #639〕 Population: 37,461 (2002 Census); 〔In 1989, Gusev was administratively incorporated separately from the district, so the 1989 Census data do not include its population.〕 The population of Gusev accounts for 76.1% of the district's total population.〔 ==Geography== The district is situated in the east of the oblast and is sparsely populated. The rivers in the district include the Pissa and the Angrapa.
